1 | Arrival
at Miri Airport. Meet and proceed for half day Miri City Tour beginning with a
drive through town for an overview of its cultural history and development, passing
through Chinese Temple, Resident's office, Miri Centre, Miri Resource Centre,
Taoist Temple, shopping malls, Oil / Gas Complex and Piasau Camp. Stops will be
made at Miri Heritage, art & craft centre showcasing a wide variety of handicrafts,
mainly of the Iban, Kenyah and Lun Bawang. Afterwards, proceed to Canada Hill
for a panoramic view of the city, Petroleum Science Museum where the first oil
well is located and then finally to the Tamu Market where farmers sell jungle
produce, vegetables, fruits and poultry. After tour, transfer to hotel and check

Breakfast / Lunch)
After hotel breakfast, proceed for an overland journey
of about 2 ½ hour to the Niah National Park to visit Niah Cave which is
one of the world's most significant archaeological sites where remains of homo
sapiens dating back to 40,000 years were found. In Painted Cave, red haematite
paintings depict the afterlife journey. Marvel at agile collectors perched precariously
on flimsy bamboo poles reaching 80 metres high into the darkness to collect the
prized bird nests (when in season) while below voices of guano collectors can
be heard. Besides bats and swiftlets, lookout for giant buttress roots and pandanus,
exquisite orchids, luminous fungi and all manner of unusual insects and invertebrates.
Upon arrival at the park, proceed for lunch first. Afterwards, cross the Niah
River by boat to visit the Archaeology Museum. Then take a 3km walk on a raised
plankwalk through the tropical rainforests to reach the cave mouth. Get your camera
ready for West Mouth is indeed one of the largest and most beautiful cave entrances.
Framed by creepers with overhanging stalactites, the view takes in the lush greenery
of the surrounding rainforest. When in season, witness bird nest collection by
the locals. Explore the magnificent cave system and surrounding jungle. View prehistoric
wall paintings and remnants of prehistoric human settlements. |
